KiDi’s Blue: Extended Play Review

Mr. Blue, Mr. Green, Massa Red, Dear Music fan, and lover – This is Cyan Music; do take a seat, and breathe…

What’s up to people! We’re here again and we’ve got the review vibes on our side. We are taking a look at the recently released Blue Ep by self-proclaimed ‘Sugar Daddy’, singer, songwriter KiDi. This project comes after KiDi dropped his debut album ‘Sugar’ sometime back. He’s been touted to be as part of the instrumental front liners for the new wave of Ghanaian music. This EP is 5 songs long and lasts almost 15 minutes with each second averaging 2 minutes. Let’s jump in.

Personal sentiments, Content and Lyricism, Vocals and Production in no Particular order…

Blue. Reminds us of Jaden’s smith 4 track intro to his Syre album. Well this is how the cover art of the EP from the ‘Sugar Daddy’ looks like:

KiDi’s cover art for his Blue EP is the coolest I’ve seen so far from him, that is being compared to his previous
projects cover art. The art has a very minimalistic feel to it, with a very legible clean font and a flat color background. and I love the contrast between the background and text. This drives a lot of attention to the title of the project and its very effective. This a very nice and simple but effective cover art and Kudos to KiDi for this

The record starts with ‘Say Cheese’ which is produced by Kay So. This is not the best song off this EP and I’d think 2 other tracks could have begun the EP on a better note. The style KiDi goes for here is not his forte. The lyrics are recycled from many of the records in the same lane, some of the things he’s saying don’t even cut it in the hook and it’s nothing new. But this is followed by ‘One Man’ and this record is beautiful. This is the KiDi we know at his very best. The musicality is smooth and the vocals passages are sweet. Adina has been phenomenal since, and this feature adds up to her ever-growing collection of features bodied.

‘End in tears’ is a bit comical concerning the lyrics as KiDi is essentially saying proclaiming he’s a player and no girl should fall in love with him. A lot of people may not like this song because of what he’s talking about but you can’t hate honesty. Although we can say knowing what you are should motivate you to change to be a better man, who are we to determine people’s morals and their options for life? ‘Freaky Lord’ is a decent song. There’s not a lot wrong with it and it’s a record that grows on you with more listens. The last record. Hm. Sounded like a watered-down Daddy Lumba and again, lyric issues in this record as well.

Concluding…

This is a very solid EP. Musically, arrangements were good and vocals overall were decent. ‘One Man’ will be a fan favorite. The Ep’s openers and closers were a bit problematic but we thought of it as a sandwich; all the goodness is in the middle and that’s okay. This is decent.

The Signature Sign Off…
